[Seoul 101] How to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul (w/ Midnight Survival Guide)

by Jade_Seoulbits 2026. 7. 9.

Hey! I'm Jade. 🙋‍♀️ And first of all—welcome to Korea (and Seoul)! 🇰🇷

Just landed at Incheon International Airport (ICN) and wondering how to get to hotspots like Hongdae, Myeongdong, or Gangnam?

Don't worry—it looks more confusing than it actually is. Just remember these 3 essential transportation options, and you'll be good to go.

Pick the Seoulbits that matches your budget, luggage situation, and travel style!

1. AREX (Airport Railroad Express) — The Fastest & Most Reliable 🚄

If you'd rather skip Seoul's legendary traffic jams, the train is your best friend.

There are two different AREX services:

  • Express Train: Non-stop from the airport to Seoul Station in just 43 minutes. Reserved seats + free Wi-Fi included! (11,000 KRW)
  • All-stop Train: Like a regular subway, stopping at every station. About 50 minutes to Hongdae and 1 hour to Seoul Station. (4,050 KRW)

💡Secret Tip: Unless you're seriously unlucky, you'll probably get a seat on the all-stop train too. Why? Because Terminal 2 is the very first station on the AREX line!

📌 Real Tip: Staying in Hongdae? Don't waste money on the Express Train. It doesn't even stop there. The all-stop train takes you directly to Hongik University Station, and costs about one-third of the price.

2. Airport Limousine Bus — Perfect If You're Traveling With Lots of Luggage 🚌

Dragging a giant suitcase through Seoul subway stations (and endless stairs) isn't exactly a vacation highlight.

That's where the airport limousine bus comes in.

  • Why you'll love it: It drops you off near major hotels and subway stations in neighborhoods like Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, and Gangnam. Your suitcase goes underneath the bus, so you can just sit back and relax. (17,000–18,000 KRW)

📌 Real Tip: After immigration, head outside to one of the ticket kiosks and simply search for your neighborhood (like Myeongdong) to find the correct bus number.

3. Taxi — Best for Groups or Maximum Comfort 🚖

Want door-to-door service? Or splitting the fare with friends?

A taxi is easily the most convenient option. (Usually 75,000–95,000 KRW)

🚨 Anti-Scam Tip: Keep an eye out for black taxis with a yellow stripe—these are MOBUM (Deluxe) Taxis. They're Korea's premium taxi service: roomier, more comfortable, and they don't charge late-night surcharges.

If you're currently feeling @Exhausted or @Rich , go for it.

But... is the experience that much better than a regular taxi? 🤔

If you'd rather save your travel budget for Korean BBQ, stick with the Standard Taxi line (usually orange, silver, or white cars).

📎 [Bonus] Landed After Midnight? (Midnight Survival Guide)

If your flight lands after 11:30 PM and the regular trains and buses have stopped running, here's your escape plan.

Route A: Late-Night Airport Bus (N-Bus) 🚌 Best Value

  • Much cheaper than taking a taxi.
  • N6701 goes toward Mapo, Seoul Station, Myeongdong, and Dongdaemun.
  • N6703 heads to Gangnam and Jamsil.

Just pick whichever route is closest to your accommodation. (18,000 KRW)

Route B: Regular Taxi with Late-Night Fare 🚖 Most Comfortable

Regular taxis add a 20–40% late-night surcharge, especially between 11 PM and 2 AM.

If you're traveling with 3 or 4 people, splitting the fare makes this one of the safest and easiest ways to get straight to your hotel. (80,000–100,000 KRW total)

Route C: Tough It Out Until the First Train ☕ Ultimate Budget Hack

Finished immigration and it's already around 4 AM?

Skip the expensive taxi and hang in there for a little while.

Incheon Airport is famous for being one of the safest and most comfortable airports in the world, so spending an hour or so there is honestly no big deal. There are plenty of free charging stations too, so your phone (and you) can recharge together.

Better yet...

This is the perfect time for your very first K-convenience store adventure.

Walk into any 24-hour convenience store and you'll see stacks of the iconic, jar-shaped Korean fat banana milk (the adorable little bottle many travelers lovingly call @fatbananamilk 🍌🥛).

Grab one, charge your phone, relax for a bit, and before you know it, the first AREX train at 5:15 AM will roll in.

For just 4,050 KRW, you'll be heading into Seoul the smart (and budget-friendly) way.
